TESS Captures Stunning Image of Stars and Galaxies, Marks First Observation of Exoplanets around Other Stars

During a 30-minute period on Tuesday, Aug. 7, the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) captured a stunning image of a strip of stars and galaxies in the southern sky. This marked the first time that TESS has been able to observe planets around other stars in its first observing sector.

The collage of stars and galaxies in the image was created by combining the views from all four of TESS’ cameras, showcasing the incredible capabilities of this satellite. The image is labeled to highlight the different elements captured by TESS, making it clear just how much information this powerful tool is capable of gathering.

This snapshot is just the beginning for TESS as it continues to explore our galaxy and beyond, searching for planets around other stars and studying their characteristics. With its advanced technology and cutting-edge techniques, TESS is set to make groundbreaking discoveries that will revolutionize our understanding of exoplanets and their environments.
