The entertainment industry has been revolutionized by Texas Instruments, a company renowned for its computers and semiconductors. While many people are aware of its contributions to the tech world, few realize that it has also made significant strides in the movie industry.

DLP (Digital Light Projection) technology, developed by Texas Instruments, has transformed the movie-going experience. DLP Cinema Senior Assistant Architect Tim Ryan explains how this technology works by showcasing a Digital Micromirror Device (DMD) chip created 25 years ago at Texas Instruments. This chip uses light projected onto tiny mirrors to reflect brighter and crisper images, enabling the transition from film to digital format.

The impact of Texas Instruments DLP technology is undeniable in the movie industry. Nine out of every 10 movie theaters worldwide now use DLP Cinema, improving the viewing experience significantly by providing vivid colors and sharp images. This innovation has transformed the quality of movie projections, making films more immersive than ever before.

To celebrate this milestone anniversary, Texas Instruments employees organized a costume contest and gathering at a theater on its campus. Dressed as their favorite movie characters, employees like Product & Test Manager Griselda Hermosillo embraced the magic that Texas Instruments has brought to cinema.

Texas Instruments’ commitment to innovation and continuous improvement has shaped the way movies are produced, distributed, and exhibited globally. Its contributions have made it a significant player in the entertainment industry, changing our lives forever with groundbreaking technology that continues to evolve and inspire us today.
