Texas Readies for Hurricane Beryl: Gov. Abbott Deploys Emergency Resources and Urges Residents to Prepare for Arrival

Texas Gears Up as Hurricane Beryl Becomes First Threat of 2024 Hurricane Season to the United States

Hurricane Beryl, which caused devastation in the Caribbean, is moving towards Mexico before heading towards the USA. The Texas government is preparing for its arrival, with the Texas Division of Emergency Management raising its response level and Governor Greg Abbott ordering emergency resources to be deployed. Residents and visitors of coastal areas are being urged to create emergency plans, review evacuation routes, and stay informed about weather conditions for their safety. A voluntary evacuation of the Coastal Bend area and distribution of sandbags in Brownsville and other cities in the Rio Grande Valley are underway to mitigate potential flooding risks. The main threats posed by hurricanes in Texas are heavy rains and flash floods, as seen during Hurricane Harvey in 2017.
