The End of an Era: Demolition of the Original World of Coca-Cola Building in Atlanta, Georgia

The original World of Coca-Cola building, which once housed the iconic indoor attraction in downtown Atlanta, is currently being demolished by Georgia’s state government. Purchased from Coca-Cola in 2005 for $1 million, the state has plans to convert the site into a parking lot.

The decision to demolish the building was made by state officials due to the need for additional parking near the Georgia Capitol complex. Despite its popularity among visitors during its 27-year run, the original World of Coca-Cola has been vacant since Coca-Cola moved out in 2007.

In its place, a new Coca-Cola museum has opened in Atlanta’s Centennial Olympic Park. Since its opening in 2007, it has become a popular tourist destination and is now at the heart of the city’s tourism industry. Surrounded by various hotels and attractions such as the Georgia Aquarium, the College Football Hall of Fame, and the National Center for Civil and Human Rights, it is a must-see destination for many visitors.

The demolition of the original World of Coca-Cola building is projected to be complete by August 1 at a cost of just under $1.3 million. This construction project aims to build a new legislative office building near the Georgia Capitol complex and will cost $392 million. Lawmakers agreed to spend this amount on this project, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
