The Federal Prosecutor’s Office has charged seven individuals who planned attacks in Germany in the name of the “Islamic State”. These suspects, including individuals from Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Kyrgyzstan, are accused of founding a domestic terrorist organization and supporting the IS. They are also alleged to have violated the Foreign Trade Act.
The group is said to have had connections with the IS branch “Islamic State Khorasan Province” and had been collecting money to support terrorist activities abroad. It is believed that they entered Germany from Ukraine shortly after the start of the war in spring 2022. They formed a terrorist organization with the intention of carrying out attacks in Germany and other Western European countries.
The suspects allegedly met regularly to plan their attacks, scouted out potential targets, and had a concrete attack plan in place before being apprehended by law enforcement agencies. The GSG-9 accessed the terrorist cell in multiple locations in Germany and made arrests in the Netherlands as well. Despite this arrest, it appears that no concrete attack had yet been carried out by this group.
