The Legacy of The Starlite Drive-In: An Ode to a Beloved Christiansburg Institution

In the heart of Christiansburg, Virginia, a beloved establishment has been gracing the community since 1952 – The Starlite Drive-In movie theater. However, the future of this iconic drive-in hangs in the balance following the passing of its longtime owner, Peggy Beasley, at the beginning of their 71st season.

Peggy inherited the drive-in from her parents and had been carrying on their legacy until her passing. The management company holds a lease until the end of 2024, which will then be passed on to Peggy’s heirs. The decision on what to do with the drive-in will be made by the six heirs, as ownership has been passed down to them.

Sarah Fink, a friend of Peggy’s who is currently managing the drive-in, stated that while the theater will continue operating as usual this season, its future beyond that is up in the air. Despite this uncertainty surrounding the fate of The Starlite Drive-In, there is still hope that a decision will be made to keep it running. Many in the community hold it dear and would hate to see it go.
