The Neglected Enormous Disease: Why We Need to Prioritize Tuberculosis and Nutrition in Global Health Efforts

While the world is constantly facing challenges such as climate change, war, and immigration, it is important not to overlook other significant problems that also require attention and funding. Tuberculosis and nutrition are two issues that don’t receive as much airtime or awareness but are just as crucial on a global scale. Funding is allocated to these lesser-known problems, but there is still much work to be done to address them effectively.

One group of diseases that often goes unnoticed but have a significant impact on global health are “neglected tropical diseases.” These include rabies, river blindness, and leprosy. These diseases kill an estimated 200,000 people each year in poorer countries and are considered a priority in global health efforts. While some organizations like the World Health Organization provide funding and programs for these diseases, more needs to be done to ensure they receive the attention they deserve.

Despite the attention given to these issues, there remains one challenge that receives little to no coverage but affects more than 1 billion people worldwide. This issue could be referred to as the “neglected enormous disease” due to its significant impact on a large portion of the global population. If more awareness and funding were directed towards this problem, it could be addressed efficiently and effectively. It’s essential not to overlook these issues when addressing global challenges and working towards a better future for all.
