Tigers TV Analyst Faces Sexual Abuse Allegations: Craig Monroe’s Past Comes Back to Haunt Him in Major League Baseball

Florida sheriff’s office investigates sex abuse allegations involving Tigers broadcaster Craig Monroe, pulling him off air

In recent news, Detroit Tigers television analyst Craig Monroe is facing an investigation by the Charlotte County (Fla.) Sheriff’s Office after allegations were made against him by a woman on social media. The woman claims that she was abused sexually when she was just 12 years old and Monroe was a minor-league player. This abuse reportedly began during his time in the minor leagues, when it was common for players to stay with host families.

Although the woman initially deleted her post, she later reposted the accusations on social media. The woman, now 35 years old, spoke with WJBK-TV, Detroit’s FOX 2, providing disturbing details about the alleged abuse. Monroe, who worked on a freelance contract with the Tigers, has not appeared on a broadcast since June 9. Bally Sports Detroit removed him from a game on June 11 after learning of the accusations. Both the Tigers and Bally Sports Detroit released a joint statement expressing their awareness of the situation and noting that Monroe will not be on the broadcast schedule for the foreseeable future.

Monroe denied the allegations through his attorney and expressed his intention to cooperate with law enforcement. He stated that he takes such allegations seriously and would never engage in or support such behavior. Monroe’s attorney mentioned that he and his family are shocked by the accusations and extend forgiveness and grace to his accuser. Despite these allegations, Monroe played in Major League Baseball from 2001-09 with several teams including the Tigers, Texas Rangers, Pittsburgh Pirates, Chicago Cubs and Minnesota Twins
