Tragic Accident Claims Lives of World Cup Skier and Girlfriend on Italian Mountain

Elisa Arlian and Jean Daniel Pession, a professional skier and his girlfriend, tragically passed away in a mountain accident in northern Italy. This news was confirmed by the Italian Winter Sports Federation on June 1st. The couple fell nearly 2,300 feet off Mount Zerbion in Aosta Valley, Italy while skiing.

The couple had set out early in the morning to reach a peak they were familiar with but when they did not return, their families alerted the emergency center which immediately initiated a search. Rescuers found them hours later and discovered that they were still tied together in a final embrace.

The news of their tragic deaths has led to an outpouring of condolences from the community, including Aosta Valley President Renzo Testolin and Italian Winter Sports Federation President Flavio Roda. Aosta Valley’s Regional Council President Alberto Bertin expressed deep sadness for the loss and extended support to their families, friends, and the entire sports community.

According to RAI, a signal from one of their cell phones helped rescuers locate their lifeless bodies. The tragic event has left a void in the skiing world and has touched the hearts of many who knew the couple or admired their talents on the slopes.
