Tragic Loss: Golf Star Grayson Murray Dies By Suicide Amidst Battle with Mental Health

Golfer Grayson Murray’s parents confirm his death was by suicide

The PGA Tour released a statement confirming the death of professional golfer Grayson Murray by suicide. Eric and Terry Murray, his parents, expressed their gratitude for the support from the golf community as they try to come to terms with their son’s passing. They acknowledged that life was not always easy for Grayson, who had been open about his struggles with mental health and physical issues.

Grayson Murray won the Sony Open earlier this year in a playoff, ending a long winless streak. He achieved notable accomplishments at a young age, including becoming the second youngest player to make the cut on the PGA’s developmental Korn Ferry Tour at age 16. He won the 2017 Barbasol Championship at just 23 years old. Originally from Raleigh, North Carolina, he was a highly regarded junior player who had a successful career in golf.

The PGA Tour announced Grayson’s death just one day after he withdrew from competition due to illness at the Charles Schwab Challenge in Fort Worth, Texas. His parents are asking for privacy as they grieve their loss and try to make sense of what happened. If you or someone you know is experiencing suicidal thoughts or crisis, you can call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 988 for free and confidential support 24/7. The International Association for Suicide Prevention and Befrienders Worldwide also provide resources and hotlines for support outside of the US.
