U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito Tours Expanded Health Clinic in Charleston, Emphasizes Need for Substance Abuse, Mental Health Care

Capito Tours Almost Finished Expansion Project of West Virginia Health Right

U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito recently visited the newly completed expansion project at West Virginia Health Right on Charleston’s East End, where she helped secure federal funding. During her tour of the facility, Capito expressed her amazement at the comprehensive services provided by the beautiful, doubled-in-size building, the dedicated volunteers, and the great staff.

In September 2022, Capito played a key role in securing $4 million in Congressionally Directed Spending for the expansion project, which is part of the $12 million total expansion cost. She emphasized her support for programs related to substance abuse, mental health, and diabetes care that will be offered at the expanded clinic.

Health Right CEO Angie Settle shared that the project has been in the works since 2019, with significant fundraising efforts to provide additional care to underserved populations. The new facility is expected to serve over 60,000 patients annually, up from the current 44,000 patients served.
