Ukrainian forces brace for a critical phase in the war as ammunition runs low and Russia gears up for an offensive.

Ukrainian forces on the frontlines are feeling the pressure as they believe the war is entering a critical phase. Colonel Pavlo Palisa of the 93rd Mechanised Brigade near Chasiv Yar expressed his concern that Russia is gearing up for a significant offensive in eastern Ukraine. He emphasized the importance of imposing heavy costs on Russia quickly due to the limited resources of the Ukrainian armed forces.

According to gun commander Oleksandr Kozachenko, his unit’s howitzer, which used to fire 100 shells daily, is now barely managing to shoot 10. The lack of ammunition is causing great concern for Ukrainian forces, especially in the Donetsk region where gunners are running low on 155mm rounds for their Western cannons. These cannons were previously advantageous in combat against Russia.

The United States has rushed ammunition and weapons to support Ukraine following the approval of a $61bn aid package. The soldiers on the frontline are anxiously awaiting these deliveries as they face an advancing enemy. The urgency for more resources is apparent in the midst of the ongoing conflict, with Ukrainian forces striving to maintain their defense against relentless Russian attacks.
