Ukrainian President Zelenskiy Pushes for World Peace Summit in Switzerland, but Russia Takes Issue with Invite: The Challenges of Uniting Nations Towards a Peaceful Resolution to the Conflict

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has expressed his hopes for a world peace summit in Switzerland with 80 to 100 countries, alongside Swiss President Viola Amherd. During a television interview, Zelenskiy mentioned that he and Amherd would need to agree on the date for the summit and send out invitations to world leaders.

Zelenskiy emphasized that the participation of 80 to 100 countries would be crucial in pressuring Russia to engage in fair peace negotiations. He clarified that while they did not have a definite list of countries yet, they would finalize these details in the coming days.

Despite this, Russia has indicated that it would find such a meeting pointless if it were not included. However, Zelenskiy previously proposed a world peace summit but mentioned that Russia would not be invited. Despite this, he expressed his gratitude towards Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan for his support and willingness to mediate, acknowledging Turkey’s strong relations with Russia.

However, Zelenskiy highlighted the complexity of the summit’s format, considering the various interests involved, including historical and contemporary relations with Russia, Europe, and other nations. Despite the challenges, Zelenskiy emphasized the importance of bringing all these countries together to establish a format for moving forward towards peace. The summit’s format would need to navigate the diverse interests at play and ultimately reach a consensus on the way forward.

In summary, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has expressed his hopes for a world peace summit in Switzerland with 80 to 100 countries alongside Swiss President Viola Amherd. However, Russia has indicated that it would find such a meeting pointless if it were not included. Despite this challenge, Zelenskiy emphasized the importance of bringing all these countries together towards peace by establishing a consensus on how forward.
