Unifying for Health: Greenfield and West Allis Join Forces to Form the Southwest Suburban Health Department

The Greenfield Health Department and the West Allis Health Department are merging to form the new Southwest Suburban Health Department. This decision was announced in a press release on March 27, with the aim of providing more efficient and comprehensive public health services to both communities.

The merger received approval from the common councils of both cities, establishing a unified entity that will deliver community and environmental health services to all residents it serves. The Southwest Suburban Health Department will be governed by a joint board of health under an intergovernmental agreement for a five-year term, with funding coming from both cities as well as state health grants.

Mayor Dan Devine of West Allis expressed confidence in the merger, stating that it reflects the long-standing collaborative relationship between the two departments. He emphasized that this move will allow for a more streamlined and focused delivery of community and environmental health services to all residents they serve.

Michael Neitzke, mayor of Greenfield, also highlighted the benefits of the merger, stating that it will provide top-quality health services to their communities through a collaborative and efficient approach.
