Universal Music Group Enters the Health Sector with Binaural-Beats Technology and Sollos App

UMG files a patent application for its binaural beats technology

Universal Music Group is expanding its digital partnerships in the health sector. The company has collaborated with startups such as MedRhythms, Music Health, and soundBrilliance, as well as launched a website aimed at carers of individuals with dementia. Additionally, Universal Music Group is in the process of developing its own wellness app called Sollos.

Recently, a patent filing revealed details about potential features of the Sollos app. The patent centers around the concept of ‘generating tonally compatible, synchronized neural beats for digital audio files,’ also known as ‘binaural’ beats. These beats are specially designed to induce a desired mental state in users, such as neural entrainment, improved focus, relaxation, or a calmer mood.

The inventor of this technology is UMG’s VP of artificial intelligence, Elio Quinton. The patent suggests that Universal Music Group has created technology to incorporate these binaural beats into existing music tracks. The Sollos app being developed by the company aims to utilize cognitive science and proprietary audio technology to enhance focus, relaxation, and sleep. This aligns well with the binaural-beats technology described in the patent filing.
