US Rowing Team Secures Spots at Paris Olympics with Triumphant Performance at Sarasota Trials.

Kara Kohler emerges as top rower in Olympic trials, aims for second medal

Kara Kohler, a seasoned rower with two Olympic appearances under her belt, secured her third Olympic berth by winning the single sculls event at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Sarasota, Florida. She was one of five rowers to earn a spot on Team USA.

In addition to Kohler, Jessica Thoennes and Azja Czajkowski also won spots on the team by winning the women’s pair event at the trials. Thoennes had previously finished fourth in the eight at the Tokyo Olympics and earned a 2023 World silver in that event. Oliver Bub and William Bender clinched spots on the men’s team by winning their respective pairs events.

Other winning rowers from the trials will move on to a final Olympic and Paralympic qualifier in May in Switzerland, where they will have the opportunity to compete against international rowers for spots in the Paris racing competition. Last month, Meghan Musnicki was announced as one of the first 21 members of the Olympic team, set to become the oldest U.S. woman to row at this prestigious event.

Kohler is no stranger to success on international stages, having previously won quadruple sculls bronze at the 2012 London Games and finishing ninth in single sculls at last year’s Tokyo Games and fourth at this year’s World Championships.
