Violent Clash Between Cartel Hitmen in Mexico Leaves 19 Dead, Amid Ongoing Drug Violence Struggle

In the southern part of Mexico, a violent clash between hitmen representing three different cartels occurred. This unfortunate incident resulted in 19 fatalities and took place in the state of Chiapas. The Mexican government’s Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) confirmed the ongoing drug violence plaguing the country.

On June 29, a gruesome discovery was made when several deceased individuals were found along a road connecting Jaltenango de la Paz with La Reforma. A video circulated the day prior showed lifeless bodies in the back of a cargo truck, identified as members of the Sinaloa Cartel and their rivals linked to Chiapas and Guatemala. The victims were dressed in tactical gear and armed with long weapons, highlighting the violent nature of the clash.

Following this incident, the federal government dispatched 200 agents to strengthen security measures in the region. The State Attorney General’s Office of Chiapas collaborated with various law enforcement entities to locate all 19 bodies inside a dump truck. The victims had gunshot wounds and were dressed in dark clothing and tactical vests equipped with firearm magazines.

This latest episode adds to Mexico’s grim homicide statistics for May, which reached 2,657 as reported by SSPC despite a marginal decrease in overall homicides over recent years. The complexity and severity of Mexico’s drug-related violence highlights how challenging it is for authorities to curb this bloodshed effectively.
