Water Woes in Atlanta: A Nightmare Come to Reality

Water service disruption in Downtown Atlanta leads to closure of businesses and issuance of water boil notice

On Saturday, downtown Atlanta businesses and attractions were forced to close due to water main breaks that caused water outages and low pressure. The Atlanta Department of Watershed Management reported that water gushed into the street at the intersection of three large water mains, impacting two downtown hospitals, a city jail, a county jail, and local shelters. As a result, places like the Georgia Aquarium had to shut down.

The water problems started on Friday morning and continued into Saturday as crews worked to restore service. A boil water advisory was issued for a large portion of metro Atlanta, and the public was asked to limit water usage to help rebuild the pressure in the system. Despite these efforts, the department’s website was down on Saturday morning and there were no social media updates since Friday night.

Rapper Megan Thee Stallion had to reschedule her concert from Friday to Sunday due to the water issues. Her performance at the State Farm Arena on Saturday was still scheduled to go on as of Saturday morning. She expressed disappointment over the situation but stated that she would follow the Mayor’s protocol. She also offered prayers for those affected by the water outages in the city.
