Watson College of Engineering at Binghamton University Rises in U.S. News Rankings for Graduate Engineering Programs

Binghamton University has received positive results in the 2025 U.S. News & World Report rankings for graduate engineering schools. The Thomas J. Watson College of Engineering and Applied Science has moved up one spot to tie at #111 in the overall rankings, while several programs within the college have scored well.

Industrial and systems engineering is now ranked #36, an improvement from #41 in 2024, while biomedical engineering went up to #69 from #79, and materials engineering jumped to #75 from #77. Mechanical engineering also saw a significant improvement, moving up to #86 from #97. Additionally, computer science moved up from #105 to #96.

President Harvey Stenger expressed pride and excitement over the high rankings achieved by Watson College and its graduate programs, noting the dedication and hard work of faculty and staff in maintaining and improving the quality of education provided to students. The Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs, Donald Hall, emphasized the longstanding tradition of excellence at Watson College and credited the faculty and students for their passion, which contributes to the success of the programs.

Incoming Dean of Watson College, Atul Kelkar, praised the faculty and staff for their exceptional dedication and scholarship, which is exemplified through the U.S. News rankings. He looks forward to joining the team later in the summer to continue providing an excellent education to graduate students.
