West Ham’s Rollercoaster Season: From Historical Night to Disappointing Finish and the Future with Julen Lopetegui

Season review: Exploring missed opportunities

The season for West Ham has been a rollercoaster of progress, stagnation, and indifference. Despite a historic night in Prague last season, this season was not as successful with a disappointing drop-off after Christmas leading to a ninth-place finish. However, in the context of recent history, it was considered an okay season.

One of the standout performances for West Ham this season has been Jarrod Bowen. He has been exceptional on the field, posing a real goal threat whether playing out wide or down the middle. Bowen’s 16 goals in the Premier League put him in the top 10 in the goalscoring charts, and there is still potential for more improvement as he recently signed a contract that runs until 2030.

On the other hand, one of West Ham’s major letdowns this season has been their matches against Bayer Leverkusen. They came close to an away draw in the first leg but ultimately conceded in stoppage time, making the return game at London Stadium an uphill battle. Despite taking an early lead, they ran out of steam and fell short of a comeback.

As we look towards the summer, West Ham’s key priority is to appoint Julen Lopetegui as their new manager. Lopetegui has received mixed reactions from fans due to his past coaching successes and failures. While some are excited about his experience at Sevilla with Spain, Real Madrid, and Wolves as evidence of his coaching abilities, others are less enthusiastic due to concerns over his past failures at Sevilla and Wolves as potential red flags. It will be crucial for Lopetegui to prove himself quickly and make an impact on the team if he is appointed as their new manager next summer
