White Sox Third Baseman Yoán Moncada Struggles with Injury in Win over Cleveland Guardians

On Tuesday, Chicago White Sox third baseman Yoán Moncada had to leave a game against the Cleveland Guardians early after falling while trying to reach first base on a ground ball. During the second inning of his team’s 7-5 win, Moncada hit a ground ball to third and collapsed while approaching first base. He was quickly ruled out due to a left adductor strain and helped off the field.

The severity of Moncada’s injury is not yet known, but he is considered day-to-day. In recent days, he had been dealing with minor soreness in his hip and groin area, which he played through despite the pain. Prior to leaving Tuesday’s game, Moncada had a .270 batting average with 10 hits in the season, his eighth with the White Sox. He had hit a single in the first inning to start a five-run inning for his team.

Despite Moncada’s exit from the game, the White Sox were able to secure a two-run win over the Guardians, thanks to Dominic Fletcher hitting a two-RBI double in the eighth inning. This victory was much needed for the struggling White Sox, who entered the game with a 1-9 record after losing five straight games, including a four-game sweep by the Kansas City Royals. Tuesday’s game marked their highest-scoring performance of the season.

The team will conclude their three-game series against the Guardians on Wednesday before heading home to face Cincinnati Reds in a three-game series starting Friday. The availability of Moncada for future games will depend on an evaluation of his injury over coming days.

In recent years, Moncada has been one of Chicago’s top performers at third base and was expected to play an important role this season as well.

The departure of Moncada from Tuesday’s lineup left many fans concerned about how it would affect Chicago’s offense going forward.

However, even without him, Chicago was able to come back from an early deficit and secure an important win over Cleveland.

Overall, it remains to be seen how severe Yoán Moncada’s injury is and if it will impact his ability to play moving forward.
