Wilkes Central Middle School Science Olympiad Team Takes First in Regional Tournament and Eyes State Championship

The Varsity team from CWMS Science Olympiad receives recognition

The Central Wilkes Middle School Science Olympiad’s Varsity team has achieved First place in the regional tournament, and they are now preparing to compete in the state Science Olympiad tournament in Raleigh. This tournament featured academic and hands-on inquiry-based events that are closely tied to the NC Standard Course of Study and the National Science Education Standards. The events covered a range of topics, including biology, earth science, environmental science, chemistry, physics, engineering, and technology.

During the Wilkes Board of Education meeting on Monday, April 8, Wilkes Schools Superintendent Mark Byrd awarded Certificates of Accomplishment to the team members. The group consisted of Kaylee Gravley, Kenneth “Alin” Carroll, Louis “LJ” Carque, Coach Julia Colglazier, Cormac Gebauer, Ryleigh Arnold, Will Hefner, Elijah Craig, Morgan Woodard, Autumn Carroll
