Williams Racing Expands Beyond Formula One with New Technology Business Venture: Williams Grand Prix Technologies

Williams Racing has recently launched Williams Grand Prix Technologies, a new technology business aimed at assisting clients in industries outside of Formula One with their engineering challenges. The company will be located at the team’s technology campus in Grove, UK, and will cater to sectors such as wider motorsport, premium automotive, aerospace, defence, marine, energy, sport, and lifestyle.

Williams has been involved in other business ventures beyond Formula One for several years now. The team owned a majority stake in Williams Hybrid Power and also set up Williams Advanced Engineering. These companies utilized technology developed for Formula One in various commercial applications. However, Williams Hybrid Power was later sold to GKN in March 2014 while Williams Advanced Engineering was sold to Fortescue in February 2022.

Chairman of Williams Grand Prix Engineering Matthew Savage expressed his excitement about the new venture by stating that the company offers a unique combination of engineering skills, expertise and capabilities to solve customer problems. The team has already received significant interest from diverse clients even before the official launch. Williams plans to leverage the skills and assets developed over five decades of competing in global motor racing to provide unparalleled solutions to their clients.

The upcoming Shanghai International Circuit will host the return of the Formula One series from 19th to 21st April when it returns to China for the first time since 2019. Additionally, the BlackBook Motorsport Forum will take place in London this April for its 10th anniversary edition, exploring the transformation of motorsport and the trends shaping the industry’s future in the next decade.
