Windsor Driver Arrested for DUI After Crashing Into Business; Violated Probation and Ignition Interlock Requirement

A man from Windsor was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after crashing a vehicle into a business in the 300 block of Windsor Road just south of the Town Green. The incident occurred just after 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, according to Sgt. Jeff Toney of the Windsor Police Department.

Upon arrival at the scene, police found an empty black SUV that had run into a column in front of a two-story business triplex. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the crash. However, authorities did find a man sitting on a bench near the wreckage who identified himself as the driver.

Further investigation revealed that the man’s blood alcohol content was 0.347%, which is more than four times the legal limit for driving in California. As a result, he was arrested and booked into the Sonoma County jail in Santa Rosa on suspicion of DUI and DUI with a blood alcohol content greater than 0.08%.

In addition to these charges, it was also discovered that the man was on probation for a previous misdemeanor DUI conviction and is suspected of violating probation by driving without an ignition interlock device, which is required by law for anyone convicted of DUI who wishes to drive legally again without having their license suspended or revoked.

As of Wednesday morning, the man remained in custody on bail set at $70,000. For more information about this case or any other questions you may have, please contact Staff Writer Madison Smalstig at madison.smalstig@pressdemocrat.com or follow her on Twitter @madi_smals
