WNBA Player Sophie Cunningham Makes a Statement on the Court with Unusual Attire and Impressive Performance

Sophie Cunningham of Mercury shines brightly in preparation for game against Storm

Sophie Cunningham of the Phoenix Mercury made a bold statement on Sunday night at the Footprint Arena by wearing an oversized Arizona Coyotes jersey before the game against the Seattle Storm. Her unique choice of attire, including the red sweater, heels, and sunglasses, caught the attention of many.

Following the game, Cunningham shared her look on social media and received mixed reactions from fans. Some were surprised to not be familiar with her game, while others praised her appearance. Despite this, Cunningham has been making a name for herself in the WNBA since being drafted by the Mercury in 2019. She has averaged 7.6 points and 1.3 assists per game in her career, shooting at 35.8% from 3-point range.

In recent seasons, Cunningham has shown improvement as she shot over 40% from 3-point range in both 2021 and 2022. This provided a valuable asset to the veteran Mercury team alongside Diana Taurasi, Brittney Griner, and Kaleah Copper. In a recent game against the Storm, she contributed five assists and two rebounds and is currently averaging 7.9 points per game this season. The Mercury currently hold a 7-7 record and are in the middle of the WNBA standings.

Last season was challenging for the Mercury as they struggled with a 9-31 record but had a better performance with a record of 15-21 in 2022
