Monica Shokeen, an associate professor of radiology at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis and vice chair for diversity, equity, inclusion and justice at the School of Medicine’s Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology (MIR), has been awarded the International Suffrage Science Award for Life Sciences. This prestigious award, launched on the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day, recognizes and supports talented individuals in the field of science, encouraging more women to pursue careers in science and attain leadership positions.
Shokeen’s research focuses on investigating the mechanisms of disease using molecularly targeted imaging agents. Her laboratory is dedicated to understanding disease pathogenesis and developing translational approaches to benefit patients. She serves as a principal investigator at MIR’s Biophotonics Research Center and oversees the Molecular Imaging Center and the Office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Justice.
During a ceremony at the University of Oxford, Shokeen was honored along with other recipients of the award for her contributions to life sciences and her commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice in the scientific community.
