Yankees Acquire Veteran J.D. Davis in Injury-Stricken Season, Bringing in Much-Needed Power and Experience

First-place Yankees acquire former Mets infielder amid injuries to Stanton and Rizzo

The New York Yankees made an announcement on Sunday that they have acquired veteran corner infielder J.D. Davis from the Oakland Athletics in exchange for minor-league infielder Jordan Groshans. This move comes at a good time for the Yankees as they recently lost two key players, Anthony Rizzo and Giancarlo Stanton, to injuries.

Davis is expected to play at both corner infield positions and serve as a designated hitter for the Yankees. The 31-year-old has played in 39 games with the Athletics this season, hitting .236/.304/.366 with four home runs and five RBIs. Prior to playing for the Athletics, he had a productive stint with the San Francisco Giants where he hit 26 home runs over the course of 193 games. However, the Giants released him before the current season began, and he subsequently signed with the Athletics.
