The Oakland Athletics and the New York Yankees made a trade on Sunday, with Davis going to the Yankees and Groshans heading to Oakland. Davis is a former Met who was recently designated for assignment by Oakland due to struggles at the plate this season, hitting just .236 with four home runs in 39 games.
As a result of Giancarlo Stanton’s left hamstring strain, which will keep him out of action for at least 10 days, manager Aaron Boone sees Davis as a potential option to provide some right-handed power for the Yankees. Throughout his eight-year professional career, Davis has consistently put up solid numbers, hitting .259 with 72 home runs and 220 RBI. His best season came in 2019 with the Mets when he hit .307 with an .895 OPS, 22 home runs, and 57 RBI.
In exchange for Davis, the Athletics received Groshans, a promising young infielder claimed off waivers by the Yankees from the Miami Marlins in February. Groshans has previously been part of both the Marlins’ and Blue Jays’ organizations before joining the Yankees.
