Yankees’ Giancarlo Stanton Placed on Injured List with Left Hamstring Strain, Domínguez Kept Out Due to Oblique Strain

New York Yankees outfielder Giancarlo Stanton sustained a left hamstring strain while running the bases in the sixth inning of a game against the Atlanta Braves on Saturday night. The Yankees placed him on the 10-day injured list on Sunday morning. Infielder Oswald Peraza was called up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to take Stanton’s spot on the 26-man roster.

Stanton, who has hit 18 home runs this season, is tied for second on the Yankees’ roster with Juan Soto. He has mainly played as a designated hitter and has a .246 batting average and .795 OPS. This injury comes shortly after top prospect Jasson Domínguez was placed on the injured list due to an oblique strain that could keep him out for up to eight weeks. Domínguez was a potential replacement for Stanton in the lineup had he not been injured.

Stanton, 34, has a history of hamstring injuries, missing six weeks last season due to a similar injury. In fact, injuries have plagued Stanton throughout his time with the Yankees, resulting in eight injured list stints and missing 266 games over the past seven seasons with the team. General manager Brian Cashman had previously expressed frustration over Stanton’s injuries, calling it “a part of his game.” However, he later met with Stanton and his agent to address the comments and assured reporters that everything was in a good place.

With Stanton sidelined, Soto and Aaron Judge are expected to rotate in the designated hitter spot, while Trent Grisham is likely to see more playing time in center field. Grisham hit a home run as a pinch-hitter for Stanton during Saturday’s game.
