2024 Teacher of Merit Award for Science Educator Inspiring Next Generation Scientists

Dr. Michela Ombelli of LAHS Recognized as Regeneron Science Talent Search Teacher of Merit by Los Alamos Reporter

Dr. Michela Ombelli, a science teacher at Los Alamos High School, has been recognized for her outstanding work in education with a 2024 Teacher of Merit Certificate from the Regeneron Science Talent Search. The Regeneron Science Talent Search is a prestigious competition that has been running for 83 years and aims to highlight the importance of science and engineering in shaping the nation’s future.

Dr. Ombelli expressed her gratitude for the recognition, stating that she was honored to receive this award. Los Alamos High School is one of the 196 high schools across the nation that produced a Regeneron STS scholar in 2024. Daniel Kim, a senior at Los Alamos High School, was recognized as one of the top 300 scholars for his project on an “Engineered Underwater Vehicle for Ocean Litter Mapping.”

Dr. Ombelli began her career in education as a substitute in 2016 before becoming a teacher at Los Alamos High School in 2018. She currently teaches AP Chemistry, Honors Chemistry, and Chemistry classes at the school. Her dedication to education and passion for science have been recognized through this prestigious award, showcasing her commitment to inspiring and educating the next generation of scientists.
