58-Year-Old Grandmother Breaks World Record for Longest Plank, Inspiring Others to Try

Elderly Woman Achieves World Record by Holding Plank Position for 4.5 Hours

Recently, DonnaJean Wilde from Alberta, Canada, made headlines for breaking the world record for the longest plank. At 58 years old and a mother of five and grandmother of 12, Wilde achieved an impressive feat by holding the plank for a female for an astonishing time of 4 hours, 30 minutes, and 11 seconds. To set this record, Wilde had to keep her forearms and toes touching the ground at all times while lifting the rest of her body off the ground and keeping it straight throughout.

Wilde’s love affair with planking began 12 years ago when she broke her wrist and discovered that she could still perform the exercise with a cast on. She was amazed at how multitasking she could do while planking and fell in love with it. In preparation for this monumental task, Wilde practiced planking every day for five to six hours, broken down into two to three-hour blocks. Surrounded by loved ones during the event, she focused on breathing, staying calm, and maintaining her form during the last 30 minutes, which she said was the most challenging hour.

Despite the difficulty of maintaining such an intense position for such an extended period, Wilde found it overwhelming yet dreamlike to set this world record after years of planking. She encouraged others with similar goals to keep trying and practicing by incorporating planking into their daily routine whenever possible. For men, the longest plank record was set by Josef Šálek from Czechia in May 2023, with an astounding time of 9 hours, 38 minutes
