A Dream Realized: The Grand Opening of the School of Public Health at UNR Celebrates People, Purpose and Progress

New School of Public Health building celebrates grand opening

On Thursday, April 6, 2024, the School of Public Health in the Edna S. Brigham Building celebrated its grand opening. The occasion was met with joy and pride as a ribbon cutting ceremony took place, with opening remarks from University leadership.

Dean Akpinar-Elci expressed her gratitude to those who shared the School’s dream and worked tirelessly to make it a reality during her speech. She emphasized that the celebration was not just about bricks and walls, but about the people who went above and beyond to assist in creating the space where passion meets purpose.

President Sandoval spoke warmly about the School’s impact in the community during his address at the ceremony. He highlighted the School’s role in preparing students to take on leadership roles in the future of public health for Nevada and beyond. Students at the School impact policy, implement systemic change, develop and evaluate health programs, provide accessible wide-scale services, and conduct innovative research.

Dean Akpinar-Elci has made significant progress in her role since assuming it in Fall 2021. During her address at the ceremony, she reflected on the journey that led to this day and expressed her gratitude for the collaborative effort that brought the shared vision to life.
