Aid Delivery to Gaza: A Step Towards Peace and Stability, but Challenges Remain

UN Security Council urges Israel to eliminate all hindrances to the delivery of aid to Gaza

Recently, the United Nations Security Council recognized Israel’s efforts to increase the flow of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip. Israel has opened cargo flows through the Erez crossing and delivered aid through the port of Ashdod. However, the council also expressed concern about the significant loss of life, dire humanitarian situation, and looming threat of famine in Gaza due to ongoing conflict.

Major General Rasan Alian, the coordinator of government activities in the territories, cited delays in aid delivery due to challenges with UN Relief Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA). Despite efforts to deliver humanitarian aid, there are still trucks waiting at Kerem Shalom checkpoint to enter the Palestinian side. Alian urged the UN to expedite aid distribution to those who require it most efficiently.

Israel has delivered over 1,200 trucks of aid to Gaza in just three days. There are still more trucks waiting at Kerem Shalom checkpoint. The Security Council members called on Israel to do more in removing obstacles that hinder aid delivery to address the needs of civilians living in Gaza. They emphasized that addressing this issue is crucial for maintaining peace and stability in the region.
