Albemarle Business Center Secures Million-Dollar Grant in NC’s SelectSites Readiness Program

Albemarle Business Center, located in the southern part of the city, has successfully passed the first round in the selection process for a million-dollar grant program. The announcement was made by Candice Lowder, director of the Stanly County Economic Development Commission, who received an email notification confirming the center’s progress. The grant program was established by the North Carolina General Assembly and is administered by the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina (EDPNC).

The SelectSites Readiness Program aims to identify up to 15 sites, with specific requirements for size. Albemarle Business Center is 282 acres in size and was submitted along with two other sites. The program has seen significant growth in funding, increasing from $1 million in 2022 to $10 million for the next fiscal year.

Lindsey Almond, director of Albemarle EDC, expressed excitement about the center’s progress in the grant program. She mentioned that the center had already prepared many necessary documents due to its status as a SmartSite through Electricities. In February, the center had a site visit from a potential company, indicating interest from businesses in the area.

The grant program represents a significant opportunity for communities that are included in the selection process.
