Amazon Undergoes Major Cost-Cutting Campaign with Hundreds of Layoffs in Cloud Division

Hundreds of Employees in Amazon’s Cloud Division Are Being Laid Off

Amazon is currently undergoing a major cost-cutting campaign, which has led to hundreds of employees being laid off in its cloud division. This round of job cuts follows the recent elimination of around 160 advertising roles, bringing the total number of layoffs this year to thousands.

In an email to Business Insider, Matt Garman, the SVP of sales and marketing at AWS, confirmed that several hundred roles would be reduced in specific areas such as sales, marketing, and Global Services. According to Garman, these cuts were made to streamline operations and focus on strategic areas with maximum impact.

An AWS spokesperson also confirmed the job cuts, stating that the decisions were made to optimize resources and deliver innovation for customers. While these layoffs are difficult for those affected, Amazon is committed to supporting employees in transitioning to new roles both within and outside the company.

This latest round of job cuts is just one part of a larger downsizing trend across different divisions of Amazon. In addition to cloud and advertising roles, reports indicate that Amazon has also placed more employees on performance-improvement plans as they carry out mass layoffs in other units such as Prime Video and healthcare earlier this year. As a result, it seems that downsizing is becoming a trend across Amazon’s various divisions.
