Amtrak Seeking Proposals for Zero-Emissions Upgrades to Passenger Fleet

Amtrak Seeks Zero-Emissions Technology: Request for Information for Railroad Career Professionals

Amtrak is currently seeking information through a request for proposal (RFI) to upgrade its passenger fleet with zero-emissions technology. The company’s President, Roger Harris, expressed excitement about the potential of finding the cleanest technologies to transport customers across their extensive network.

Amtrak already operates a significant portion of its passenger fleet using zero-emission equipment, such as 108 electric Northeast Regional and Acela locomotives. Electric-powered locomotives are particularly beneficial as they produce no emissions when powered by carbon-free electricity.

The information gathered through the RFI process will play a crucial role in determining the most energy-efficient and environmentally friendly fleet for deployment across Amtrak’s network. By taking steps to embrace cleaner technologies, Amtrak is working towards providing safe and reliable service while reducing its environmental impact. This forward-thinking approach aligns with the company’s commitment to sustainability and innovation in the rail industry.
