Anti-corruption court rejects Davit Tonoyan’s release: lawyers believe there are grounds for freedom

Another motion to release Tonoyan from custody was rejected by the court.

In other news, the anti-corruption court has once again rejected a petition to release former defense minister Davit Tonoyan from detention. Andranik Manukyan, one of his lawyers, stated that the defense team believes there are grounds for Tonoyan’s release. Tonoyan has been in detention for almost two and a half years in a case involving embezzlement of about 4.5 million dollars related to “junk rockets.” He is the only one among 7 accused in this case who is currently in prison. The court has denied multiple motions to change Tonoyan’s detention status, and Tonoyan himself denies the accusations, claiming that he is a victim of political persecution.
