AP Sports Week in Photos: Randy Vazquez Takes the Mound, Olympic Flame Sparks, and Nelly Korda Makes a Splash in the Pond

Photographers from Associated Press captured unique moments at sporting events worldwide. In San Diego, Randy Vazquez was seen working in the shadows of the city while the Olympic flame was lit at the ancient Parthenon temple in Athens. Meanwhile, in London, Peres Jepchirchir of Kenya celebrated her victory at the finish line of the London Marathon.

In Texas, Nelly Korda continued her winning streak by taking a traditional jump into the lake after winning the LPGA tournament at the Chevron Championship. In Italy, Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konate faced off against Atalanta’s Gianluca Scamacca during the Europa League quarterfinals in Bergamo. Retired Greek 400-meter hurdles champion Periklis Iakovakis had an honor to light a cauldron with the Olympic flame, which will be used at the upcoming Olympics in Paris.
