Apple Announces First Round of Layoffs Since COVID-19 Pandemic: What You Need to Know

Apple to lay off over 600 employees

Apple, a leading technology company in the United States, recently announced job cuts that affected more than 600 employees. This is the first round of layoffs at the company since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. On March 27th, reports emerged stating that 614 employees were let go from various locations in California. It is believed that Apple may have higher number of layoffs as they only have to report job cuts within the state.

The reason behind these dismissals is thought to be related to changes in direction at Apple regarding their autonomous electric car project. In February, it was reported that Apple had decided to abandon this project which had been ongoing since 2014 and involved significant funding. Almost 2,000 employees were involved in this project, and many of them are believed to be moving to Apple’s AI division, which focuses on generative artificial intelligence.
