Argentine Government Forced to Activate ‘Anti-Picketing’ Protocol Amidst Ongoing Tensions with Activist Groups

Union demonstration leads to arrests of 11 individuals

On Wednesday, the Argentine government was forced to activate its “anti-picketing” protocol in response to a demonstration organized by two unions. The protest, which was part of a “national day of struggle” called by the Popular Economy Workers Union (UTEP) and the Piqueteira Unit, aimed to block the streets of Buenos Aires.

The protest began in the morning in front of the former Ministry of Social Development, quickly escalating into tension and confrontation when police intervened to clear one of the occupied roads. As a result, 11 protesters were arrested.

The authorities in Buenos Aires have increased security around the Ministry of Economy building, anticipating potential movements of protesters to the location. This situation highlights the ongoing tensions between the government and various activist groups in Argentina.
