Athitiya Singhapan: From Chronic Illness to Community Service and Scholarship Success

Athitiya Singhapan spreads her passion for science to make a difference

In 2024, American Furniture Warehouse and KPRC 2 will be awarding $2,500 scholarships to 20 outstanding high school seniors. These scholarships are being given to students who have been nominated by their high schools for their remarkable achievements.

One of the recipients of this scholarship is Athitiya Singhapan, a senior at DeBakey High School for Health Professions in the Houston Independent School District. Singhapan is a self-published author with her children’s book “Rocks and Stinky Socks” being distributed in children’s hospitals and sold online. This book was inspired by Singhapan’s own journey with a chronic autoimmune illness, and she has shared it with children across the country.

In addition to her writing, Singhapan has created an Instagram community for adolescents with chronic and autoimmune illnesses. She also volunteers her time teaching science to nursing home residents and creates educational videos on her YouTube channel.

Singhapan’s passion for science and desire to give back to the medical field has led her to pursue a degree in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Texas. Her dedication to helping others and her accomplishments have earned her recognition as a deserving recipient of the Senior Scholarship.
