Austria’s Felix Auboeck Secures European Title in Men’s 400 Freestyle Final with a New National Record

Felix Auboeck Sets New Austrian Record with a Time of 3:43.24 in the 400 Freestyle, Ranking 6th in the World for the Season.

The Men’s 400 Freestyle final at the 2024 European Championships saw Felix Auboeck of Austria take home the European Title with a time of 3:43.24. This time also marked a new national record for Auboeck, breaking his previous record of 3:43.58 set at the 2022 World Championships where he finished fourth.

Auboeck started strong in the race, flipping under World Record pace at the 200m mark with a split of 1:50.95. Although he fell off that pace, he managed to stay ahead of his national record and secure the European Title. This performance also moved Auboeck up in the World rankings, with his previous best time being 3:45.53 from the prelims of the 2024 World Championships.

Looking ahead, Auboeck will aim to make the podium next month in Paris. At the 2021 Tokyo Games, he finished fourth with a time of 3:44.07. Additionally, he finished fourth at the 2022 World Championships, eighth at the 2023 World Championships, and eighth at the 2024 World Championships.
