Azerbaijan Regains Control of Four Villages in Significant Border Dispute Resolution with Armenia

Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announces Armenia’s agreement to return 4 occupied villages.

In a major breakthrough, Azerbaijan has agreed to receive four villages that have been occupied by Armenia since the 1990s. This was announced during the 8th session of the Armenian and Azerbaijani border delimitation commissions. The Foreign Ministry of Azerbaijan confirmed this agreement, stating that the four villages will be returned to their rightful owners.

However, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan of Armenia has refused to acknowledge that these four villages are de jure in Armenian territory based on the Alma-Ata declaration. Despite this, Azerbaijan will still regain control over two and a half villages as part of the agreement. According to sources close to the Prime Minister’s staff, Azerbaijan will regain control over Kizl Hajli in its entirety and a significant portion of Ashagh Askipara.

This development marks a significant step towards resolving longstanding territorial disputes between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The return of these four villages is seen as a positive move towards peace and stability in the region. Both countries will continue to work together towards finding peaceful solutions to other outstanding issues related to their borders.
