Beyond Boundaries: Yukon Hosts First-Ever Para Snowboarding World Cup and Festival

The Para Snowboard World Cup Begins at Mount Sima in Whitehorse

The Lost in Paradise FIS Para Snowboard World Cup and Festival is currently taking place at Mount Sima in Whitehorse until March 31. This Easter weekend event marks the final set of Para Snowboard World Cup races for the season and includes various competitions and celebrations.

The festivities kicked off with an event at the Canada Games Centre on March 27. Canadian athletes like Tyler Turner and Alex Massie are among those competing in the banked slalom races on March 28 and 29 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The main festival features para snowboarders racing down the banked slalom course, which will be held on March 28 and 29 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

After the para snowboarding competition on March 29, awards will be given out at the Winterlong After Party starting at 4 p.m. at the mountain. In addition to the racing action, the festival also includes spectator activities like a vendor area, beer garden, DJ performances, and free hot dogs to make your experience more enjoyable than ever before!

Following the World Cup event, Mount Sima will host the friendly competition of Snowboard Yukon Champs from March 29 to March 30 open to snowboarders of all ages and abilities featuring events such as slopestyle, snowboard cross, and banked slalom races to showcase their skills on this beautiful terrain!

This is significant as it marks the first time that a para snowboarding world cup has been held in Yukon Territory’s history but not only that, Yukon has hosted other world cups such as Cross Country World Cup in the past decades thanks to collaboration between Canada Snowboard, Mount Sima, Snowboard Yukon and Sport Yukon who made this incredible event possible for everyone to enjoy!
