Borderless Enforcement: German Police To Strictly Enforce Swiss Traffic Fines From May 1st

Beginning on May 1st, German authorities will enforce Swiss fines

Starting from May 1st, Swiss traffic offenders will face tighter enforcement in Germany. This means that if you receive a traffic ticket in Switzerland for speeding or parking violations, you will be required to pay the fine in Germany. Similarly, Swiss citizens with official licenses in Germany will also be subject to enforcement of fines in their home country.

This new regulation is a result of a police contract between the two countries that will take effect on May 1st. Prior to this agreement, it was possible to ignore fines from non-EU countries, but with this new arrangement, fines will be enforced more strictly. The Ministry of Justice in Baden-Württemberg anticipates around 3,000 requests for the enforcement of Swiss fines in Germany this year, with a similar number of Swiss citizens receiving payment requests from Germany.

Under this new agreement, fines of at least 70 euros or 80 Swiss francs will be eligible for enforcement. In Switzerland, fines for speeding and parking violations can be significantly higher than in Germany, making it important for offenders to pay their fines promptly. Overall, this new cooperation between Germany and Switzerland aims to improve compliance with traffic laws and ensure that offenders are held accountable for their actions.
