Breaking Barriers: Kentucky’s First LGBTQ+ Health and Wellness Fair Connects Attendees with Resources in Lexington

Inaugural LGBTQ+ Health and Wellness Fair in Kentucky

The Kentucky LGBTQ+ Health and Wellness Fair was held in Lexington over the weekend. This was the first time that such an event had been organized to provide attendees with information about resources available in the community. The primary focus of the event was on health, with over 40 vendors setting up tables to share their knowledge and resources.

Shannon Ashley, who organized the fair, did so in response to a community need for access to health resources and information. The vendors at the fair included various health-related organizations, as well as community groups like Camp Beacon, the Lexington Pride Center, and Trans Parent Lex. Attendees were able to receive free rapid HIV tests and access preventative resources.

The success of the health and wellness fair has sparked discussions about holding it again next year. The fair served as a commitment to providing services and support within the healthcare space for LGBTQ+ individuals in Kentucky. Glenn Means, a committee member for the fair, highlighted its importance in connecting attendees with organizations that could help them with their health and wellness needs.
