Breaking Barriers: UNM Truman Health Services Clinic Opens Doors in Roswell, Providing Critical Healthcare Services to Southeastern New Mexico

UNM Inaugurates Truman Health Services Clinic in Roswell

UNM’s Truman Health Services Clinic has recently opened its doors in Roswell, providing essential HIV and sexual health care to people across southeastern New Mexico. The facility offers primary care, as well as testing and prevention for HIV and sexually transmitted infections (STIs). A recent study revealed that HIV rates in Chaves County alone have increased by an alarming 52% in the last 16 years.

Dr. Michelle Iandioro, medical director for UNM Truman Health Services, emphasizes the importance of accessible healthcare and resources for prevention and treatment, especially in areas with limited resources. Before the new clinic opened, Roswell relied solely on a mobile unit that provided HIV treatment once a month. The goal is to provide people with the help they need closer to home, without having to travel long distances. Dr. Gary Mlady, interim CEO & president of the UNM medical group, stresses the importance of providing care to all New Mexicans, regardless of their location.

The addition of the Truman Health Services Clinic and the center for telehealth has enabled UNM to expand its reach and ability to provide necessary care throughout Roswell. This development is seen as a positive step towards addressing the healthcare needs of the community.
