Breaking Boundaries: Croatian Students Showcase Impressive STEM Projects at Innovation Day

Exciting showcase for young inventors and STEM enthusiasts at the School of the Future

On Saturday, Infobip’s “Alpha Centauri” campus in Zagreb will be the center of attention as students from across Croatia showcase their robots, innovative ideas and projects at Innovation Day. This educational initiative, led by STEMI, Infobip and A1, has been ongoing for four years, culminating in the final event featuring the top finalists of this year’s STEMwave program. Over 500 students and 100 teachers have spent the past six months creating impressive projects such as dancing robots, AI applications and IOT programs.

One team that stood out was the one from Rovišće Elementary School who won last year’s competition with their Hexapod robot. Their success has motivated students and enhanced their school’s reputation, sparking interest in STEM fields. The team’s mentor, Mihaela Kelava emphasized the importance of keeping students engaged and maintaining their interest throughout the project.

Another accomplished team was Bjelovar High School whose mentor faced technical challenges while adjusting their busy schedule to excel in the competition. Their victory showcased the power of perseverance and hard work. Mentor Tanja Oreški highlighted key factors for success including diligence, teamwork and respect for all ideas.

The chatbot project by Orehovica elementary school’s sixth-grade students also received recognition for their hard work and determination. Mentor Tanja Oreški emphasized the importance of these projects in fostering an environment that encourages innovation and creativity among young minds.

Finally, Bjelovar Technical School was awarded for their initiative in building hexapods which inspired other students to take on challenges and make a difference. Mentor Ljudevit Sakal’s teaching of robotics has gained popularity following their victory, demonstrating how participating in innovation projects can have a significant impact on both individuals and communities.
