Elon Musk, CEO of Neuralink and Tesla, as well as SpaceX’s president, recently announced the testing of a new chip called Blindsight. This revolutionary chip has the potential to restore vision for blind individuals or enhance vision for those with impaired vision. The chip is a brain implant that has been successfully tested on monkeys and is still in the experimental phases, with visual resolution currently comparable to video game graphics.

Neuralink’s brain implant utilizes microthreads thinner than a human hair that are surgically inserted into the brain to connect neural activity with external devices. The implant is powered by a wireless battery that allows for recording and transmitting brain signals wirelessly to an application that decodes a person’s movement intentions. The company is focused on integrating artificial intelligence (AI) technology into the human brain and has already achieved significant progress with brain implants in animals.

In January of this year, Neuralink introduced Telepathy, a device designed to assist individuals with mobility loss in controlling a smartphone or computer with their mind. One such individual, Nolan Arbaugh, who was paralyzed from the neck down following a diving accident, received a Neuralink brain implant and has demonstrated remarkable progress in controlling a computer cursor and playing chess using only his mind. Despite acknowledging that the implant is not perfect and that challenges remain, Arbaugh expressed profound gratitude for the life-changing impact of the technology.
