Over 53,000 finishers break record at 44th London Marathon

The 44th London Marathon was a huge success on Sunday, with over 53,000 runners completing the race. This is a significant increase from last year’s edition, which saw 43,965 runners finish the marathon. In addition to the impressive number of finishers, the event also set a fundraising record. Event director Hugh Brasher announced that more than £67 million had been raised so far and he expects this total to continue growing as donations come in after the event weekend.

A total of 54,281 runners started the race out of the 65,725 who had registered to participate. Olympic champion Peres Jepchirchir set a women’s-only world record during the race. The London Marathon has become a global phenomenon and attracts runners from all over the world.
